For starters, I’m not proud of my digital life. It consumes a great majority of my day, and as much as I’m aware of it it is an addiction. The use of cellular devices has become a “habit” or in my opinion an addiction for so many people. My day starts out by waking up and immediately picking up my phone as I use it as an alarm clock (I really need to invest in and ACTUAL alarm clock). Depending on the day this is usually around 8:30 am. Then I start with the various platforms available, and I do so in a very thought out manner. I’ll answer any and all texts I may have missed while getting my beauty rest. From here, its always straight to Snapchat to then sift through pointless snap stories that have absolutely no relevance to my life more often than not. The captivating ombre Instagram icon is my second channel clicked. I’ll typically scroll for no longer than five minutes before I go to my FAVORITE channel: Twitter. Twitter is the most entertaining platform in my opinion. “Black Twitter” is absolutely hilarious because it’s so relatable.
In terms of posting, I rarely do. I hate feeling like I’m spamming everyone’s feed, so I’ll post on Insta every three weeks or so (with some exceptions), and Twitter MAYBE once a week. I tend to share more tweets than posting my own. I’ll post selfies or group pictures on both of those channels. I’ll post my thoughts on Twitter and the super occasional Facebook post to let my family in Ivory Coast know I’m still active on the site.
In general, I have a love-hate relationship with my social media use. Like I said earlier, I’m well aware that I’m too consumed with everything the world has to offer online. My goal in this class is to ultimately reduce my social media usage and to be more present.
